Common Problems |
Control |
| Ants |
Ants have three distinctive body regions: Head, thorax (middle), & abdomen (rear). The long pin like section between the thorax & abdomen is called the “pedicel”.
Ants are divided into two groups determined by one or two bumps on the pedicel called “nodes”.
Ants with one node don’t sting, but ants with two nodes will. |
Use ant bait on the inside of home. The more bait used the better the results.
For outside control use any residual insecticide around perimeter of home, under rocks & ground debris.
For Fire ants drench the mounds with at least a gallon per mound. |
| Bees |
Bees are generally hairy insects whereas wasps have a smooth non- hairy exoskeleton.
Bees are social insects and will fight their enemies as a team.
Africanized & native honeybees are about a half-inch long with black & yellow stripes. |
Call a beekeeper or professional exterminator (Vexcon!).
Bees are too dangerous for a non professional to manage. |
| Crickets |
House crickets are an inch long and black.
Field crickets are identical in size but tan in color. |
Treat exterior perimeter of structure with any residual insecticide.
Remove all unnecessary ground debris and cut down tall vegetation. |
| Earwigs |
Earwigs are about an inch long and mostly blackish red in color.
They have distinctive pinchers on the abdomen (rear) called “cerci”. |
Treat exterior perimeter of structure with any residual insecticide.
Remove all unnecessary ground debris and cut down tall vegetation. |
| Millipedes |
Millipedes have two legs per body segment.
|
Treat exterior perimeter of structure with any residual insecticide.
Remove all unnecessary ground debris and cut down tall vegetation.
Remove ground moisture. |
| Roaches |
American roaches are 1 ½ inches long & brownish red in color.
Smokey Brown roaches are 1 ½ inches long & blackish brown in color.
German roaches are ¾ inch long & tan in color with a blonde strip on its head. |
Use roach bait inside & out everywhere roaches are seen.
The more bait used the better the results. |
| Scorpions |
Highly visible pair of pinchers & arched tail with stinger.
Mostly tan to black in color. |
Treat exterior perimeter of structure with any residual insecticide.
Remove all unnecessary ground debris and cut down tall vegetation.
Remove ground moisture. |
| Silverfish |
Silverfish are ¾ inch long & grayish tan in color. They infest cold damp areas.
Firebrats are ¾ inch long & tan in color. They infest warm dry areas.
Both species have three hairs that grow on the rear of the abdomen. | Boric acid dust & baits are recommended where insects are visible. |
| Spiders |
Spiders have eight legs instead of the insects six.
The Black Widow is easily identified by its red hourglass markings.
The Brown Recluse is tan with a dark brown violin marking on it’s back. |
Spray, hit or vacuum the spider directly on the inside of structures.
Treat exterior perimeter of structure with any residual insecticide.
Remove all unnecessary ground debris and cut down tall vegetation.
Remove ground moisture. |
| Wasps |
Wasps have hairless bodies unlike the hairy bees.
Yellow Jackets live in the ground and are striped black & yellow.
Hornets build aerial ball shaped paper nests and are black & white in color.
Paper Wasps are flat paper nests in all colors & size.
